Marina City modelMarina City

Bertrand Goldberg designed these distinctive concrete "corn cob" towers in order to provide affordable housing for a janitorial union. This dense, urban mini-city was revolutionary when it was completed in 1964, a time when most new development followed suburban patterns. More than just the two towers, the Marina City complex includes apartments, parking, offices, a hotel, restaurants, banks, a boat marina, theater, and even a bowling alley.
